I literally tried 2 or 3 times in the 2000's to be an Ole Miss fan (well, both a State and Ole Miss fan). After all, I do have a U of M degree. I even wrote a long "Can't we have a kinder, gentler rivalry" Jerry Maguire-like post on Gene's Page and the OM Spirit board. Made "Post of the Month" on whatever paper magazine that network was publishing at the time.

It just didn't take. I couldn't stay a fan of both.

One year around 2000 when my son was young, he decided to be an OM fan. He had these socks from soccer and he went around with one long red sock and one long blue sock, knowing it was bugging me. I remember he got as far as the November game with UGA, and Ole Miss had a lead at halftime, but then Georgia came back hard, my son pulled off the socks, and he has been a State fan ever since.
