The only problem arises if Texas loses the game to Kansas St. That would put Tx at 8/4 thus setting up issues on the big 12 side.

Actually, it's not an issue. Back in 2010, the Cotton Bowl took a 9-3 A&M team over a 10-2 Missouri team and a 10-2 Oklahoma State team.

So if K St beats Tx then the standings* in the Big 12 could be.
* few assumptions made.
K St 11-1
OU. 10-2
Ok St 8-4
Tx 8-4

With Tx the fourth place team. Could the cotton really pick a 4th place 8-4 Tx team over a 10-2 ranked OU team.
I'm asking technically "could they" not "would they".
