Trying to make sense of the BCS rankings

#10 Florida St. is a 7 point favorite to beat #6 Florida.
Am I the only one who sees the irrationality of this scenario?

Betting lines have nothing to do with rankings. They also have nothing to do with who Vegas thinks will win. All they're about is getting the same amount of money bet on each side.

Because bookmakers in Vegas aren't retarded, I guess? I think if they were to make a poll it would reflect about the last 3 weeks, not the entire year.

Vegas and the betting public is different than a bunch of lazy sports writers across the country that watch one game a week in their region, and the interns at a coaching staff that make the rankings?

Somebody been watching Gators offense.

We so need a playoff this year.
There is no seperation at the top and the schedules were just unfair. LSU's schedule (played FOUR top-10) teams vs OSU or UGA. It's not even fair.

I agree. So, by this observation, would you agree that a Vegas odds maker is far more likely to correctly assess comparative team strength than the BCS system?

If we had a playoff this year, LSU wouldn't be in it anyways

Of course. The opening line is often more indicative of the actual result as well, unless the line is shifting by some of the higher end gamblers that find lines they know they can exploit. The thing about making even bets is half true. They have juice as an insurance policy, but unbalanced betting on an accurate line always plays in Vegas' favor.
The BCS is also a blend of accomplishment, not ability. Vegas would be favored to lose in Vegas on a neutral field against every team on an even field until they made their way down to A&M. And Johnny Football would arse rape them. So even Vegas isn't completely accurate.

Depends how many teams you goober. We'd be in an 8 team playoff without question. And we very well might be in a 4 team playoff by the end of the season, especially once UF loses this Saturday and drops like a brick into the outback bowl.

Last I checked, there is no plan for an eight team playoff.

Every team has had hard schedules over the last decade. It rotates and you sound like a crybaby.

After watching all the games and scores you have the eye test and nothing beats the eye test.

Florida has beaten some good teams this year & not played so well against chump teams. But FSU has really beaten no one of note, except Clemson. UF should win this game.
