i say "we" because i actually competed as a crimson tide athlete... obviously i no longer represent my team athletically, but i prefer to think of myself as slightly higher than the average student or alum, with regards to use of this term.

long story short if you utter the words we won, you better stand up and say we lost too... and never talk too much shite to a former athlete if you weren't yourself. "we" don't like that very much lol

That's a shame. Being an athlete does not make you 'higher than the average student or alum'. Unless you were a football player. But if you were on the track team or swimming or even basketball team then you are not a 'higher' person with regards to this term. What makes you better than the student who is going to college to become a teacher, lawyer, engineer, or someone who is in the marching band? Every student represents their university. If you were not a member of the football team, then you have no better right to say 'we' than any other student.
