Thoughts on this year? I feel like we should make the CWS this year...we will once again have one of the best pitching staffs in the SEC along with improved hitting. I feel like this will be an exciting year for MSU baseball

I logged into scout today and read the interview with Butch about our pitchers. Made me a little more wooly. We will miss Stratton but it seems to me like our pitching staff could be stronger this year. There's no way to really predict that in baseball though. Our hitting will be better.
I don't know if anyone answered when I asked this last time but:
If one of our players wants to use a wooden bat, can he just grab a wooden bat and stroll up to the plate? How does that work? And are the new bats really that close to wooden ones? I have never used one of the new aluminum ones, but I have played wooden bat ball, and if they are really that close, then:

Not sure on the rule. I do know a few college players and a lot of them have told me that they would rather use wood. The BBCORs suck so bad.

Give Renfroe a wooden bat if he wants one. He's earned it.

First time I've felt like "we're back" since 97 and it's different now, in that it seems that level of play is more sustainable for us under Cohen. Still nowhere near the ceiling yet, IMO...
Personally, I want to win the SEC just as bad as I want Omaha. We've been back there 4 times since the last time we won the SEC outright...been 24 years. Could have easily won it last year if the injury bug hadn't bitten us so badly, and we should be significantly better overall this year than we were then...

if we don't win the SEC I will consider it a failure. This team is loaded not just the pitching staff. Get Bradford back healthy and Rea as well plus the kid that got hurt preseason last year. We will be ballin this year.

I won't go so far as to call it a disappointment if we don't win the SEC...
There are no fewer than 5 teams in the SEC that could easily win the national title this year, all of which have recruited ~ as well or better than we do(many of which give 27 "baseball" scholarships while us/OM are limited to 11.7). It's actually alot easier to make Omaha than to win the SEC.
That said, I will be disappointed with anything less than hosting a regional...

I will be disappointed if we don't host a super regional.

Taking it a little far, IMO... the only way to be guaranteed to host a Super is being top 8 in the country @ the end of the season while also top 2-3 in the SEC. SEC is getting no more than 3 national seeds no matter how much we deserve it, so they can be "politically correct" even while being unfair to the conference that feeds everyone in college baseball(along with the ACC). While I do believe that is possible this year and that we should be borderline @ that level, I won't be disappointed if we have to travel in the Supers...

That's a little more realistic, but will stilll take a bad arse season

I see no reason we shouldn't be top 3 in the SEC

I'm not saying we can't/won't be... but it is taking it a bit far to expect it to the point of disappointment if we don't accomplish it this season.
We've never been a national seed in the current format. We also haven't finished top 3 in the SEC since 97, so it's been 15 years, including the 4 good years under McMahon.
Fact is, we still haven't seen just how good our recruiting can be yet IMO. This is the first year that we've really been fully "rebuilt" under Cohen. Even as such, we are still only 5th-6th at BEST in the conference in recruiting. Plus our facilities have fallen behind in the previous decade in baseball...
I just want to see consistent progress. Hosting a regional would be. Hosting a Super would be overachieving(which the past 2 teams have done to some extent). That would be great, I just don't really expect it yet...

I live to be disappointed. If you aren't disappointed often in life then you're expecting mediocrity. High expectations lead to eventual success.
