In my experience being a vet only got me noticed by an employer. I have never got a job just because im a vet and have never heard of it happening to others. If anything it could be a deciding factor between two qualified people.
As far as cops in my mind there are two types. One group who generally love the job and sincerely want to help and the other group got picked on in high school and love the power.

You're absolutely right. It pays shite in most areas of the country so you either love it or you love the power trip. All the guys I know love it. They include county jail deputies to state troopers, to US Marshals, DEA, etc. There are bad apples in every profession, people just hate cops because they deal with them daily.
