In the oilfield there is a lot of hurry up and wait. Well I've been waiting for the last 9 hours on a piece of equipment to get to location, so I've used that some of that time to read up on the air raid from what I can find on the internet on how to effectively run out of it.
What do yall wanna see from the running game this week?

Honestly I'm not expecting much. The only thing Arkie does well is stop the run and they just lost a Safety for this week along with their CB that is already out. No need to line up and play smash mouth just to prove we can, also the weather is a big wildcard. I would expect this to be another JFF show with him rolling out and taking advantage of Arkie defenders slipping and sliding either by throwing to open guys or running for 200 yards. As long as the OL can give Manziel protection he is going to go off on Arky.
If Arky decides to put everyone back in coverage and leaves the middle open then I'm fine with just handing it to Michael and Malena and letting them run for 300 yards, I just don't think that is what they will do. I think they stack the line, try to prevent the short passes and try to put pressure on JFF daring him to beat them with long and intermediate passing which I think he will.
This is a take what they give you game, Arky has to pick what they can defend and whatever they don't will be a TD waiting to happen. The key is if Manziel can recognize the coverages given and make them pay. The only thing I don't want to see is a lot of horizontal plays, those are rarely a good idea on wet turf.

If we have a 3rd and short or goal line situation I would like to see lineman in a 3 point stance, a 2 back set with C-Mike following a back into a hole between the tackles for positive yards.
I want to see us run, with purpose and with power, when we need a yard or two.
THAT is what I want to see.

Their weakness is their secondary. No Tevin Mitchel (best coverage CB) and no Bennet (safety) so the mismatch will be our receivers versus their DB's.I'd also like to see some 3 point stance, two tight end formation, smash mouth football, but I think we'll keep seeing the backs run out of the 1 back formation once the box opens up a bit. Maybe TWill breaks a big one.

Agree with you.... will see 1 back sets.

I want to see some pistol and diamond stuff. I expect us to hold nothing back in this game from the playbook, so yeah

Some fast hitting misdirection/counter plays out of the diamond on a wet field could work great.

Air raid doesn't really use that.
I really want to see combo pass/run(draw or HB screen after a quick pass to the Y on a short route if it isn't open hand it off or dump to Trey/Ben) with Swope being the quick pass option, and I want to see it early to see if Johnny can deal with reading the linebackers better. He's still too focused on the spy.

I want this too, but at a certain point I don't want to compromise just for compromise's sake. If we are an Air Raid team, we should embrace it and not try to be something we aren't.

Doesn't WVU use a fair amount of multi back sets?

Holgerson uses a little bit of it. Keep in mind, the pistol is still a single back formation.

The idea is to make the defense to put 9 in the box, and make them honest with the inside run. My fear is, that teams like Bama and LSU don't need to put in 9 in the box to counteract the diamond.

They won't need 9 to counteract the diamond.
Air raid type offense is usually great for 9 or 10 games on a schedule. It is a problem if the remaining 2 or 3 games are against defenses like Bama or LSU.
I think most of feel this way about the Sumlin offensive scheme. Only a couple of games out there that really worry us offensively. But, they are big worries and with good reason.

The Air Raid isn't the problem per se against a team like Bama or LSU. WVU rolled up plenty of offense on LSU last year. The problem is most Air Raid teams have crappy defenses.
Air Raid+Killer D=Winning.
Right now we have Air Raid hybrid+Very good D=Winning against lesser teams and punchers chance against the rest.

Please see my post ... I said "usually". There are exceptions.
Would have sure like to see a true "wrecking crew" defense up against a premier air raid offense.
Put my $ on the great D almost every time.
As they say, when you throw the ball only 3 things can happen and 2 of them aren't good.
1. Score prediction for tomorrow? Probably going to be raining throughout the game.
2. Score prediction if the field would have been dry?

What exactly makes it an air raid hyrid? It is a concept offense. They haven't really mixed in any other offensives schemes that I've seen.

Don't know what Agressor is going to say but the one thing missing from this offense right now is the deep pass threat. UH chunked it deep often and were successful.
Hopefully this is coming soon for the Ags.

Traditional Air Raids don't have a guy that runs as much as Manziel nor do they have someone that rolls out as much as he does. They are more about picking apart a defense from the pocket. I wouldn't say the lack of deep passing is a design of the offense, I think that's coming as it was present in the Fall scrimmages.
The "hybrid" is really less an issue as the defense though. There just hasn't been much in the way of Air Raid offenses with great defenses. We aren't a great defense but we are a good one, better than most Air Raids.

Still want to see this. The first we had at the 1 we had that started with Malena running wide for no gain and ended with a pretty amazing play by Manziel to scramble in for a TD from 6+ yards out.
During this series I would have preferred to see C-Mike up the middle between tackles. 2 or 3 times to get that yard. Don't see those scrambles working against Bama and LSU, too much team speed I think.
We don't need to be a power running team but we need to have the ability to run with power a few times a game in the SEC.
Great Win. GIGEM.
