as a college football fan, i love les miles. i put him only slightly behind saban. and it wouldnt bother me a bit if he came to bama. but i just dont think the powers that be, in tuscaloosa, would be the type where miles could be miles.

i agree with all of this. by the way, i think miles is a better coach at lsu than saban was. saban has grown tremendously since failing in the pro's and i think he's the best in college football. miles is also growing but i don't think he is the perfectionist saban is. i'll take your word for the powers that be in tuscaloosa but i know this; both bama and lsu are gonna be a tough place for the next football coach. i'd say i'd feel sorry for both of them but when a guy has a contract worth millions of dollars i don't think so.

Some of the stuff in this thread is astonishing. Time to debunk

Lsu is the easiest job in America? Then why didn’t curley hallman succeed? He was a can’t miss hire who was the hottest name in coaching having taken down several major players.

Georgia and osu fans don’t want miles? Hilarious. yeah, who wants to win conference championship games, make national title appearances?

Gundy may have done better at okst but, t boone is pumping a lot more money in now than he did when miles was there. not apples to apples.

Miles is overrated yet he continues to stay at the top of the toughest conference in America…merely because he just throws talent out on the field in random, chaotic ways…and keeps pace with saban, the best coach in the game. Makes sense.

Miles has clock management issues and makes some bad decisions. WHAT COACH IS IMMUNE FROM THIS? every coach, saban included, makes mistakes. Miles wins and makes many, many more right calls than wrong ones. Btw, the clock management criticism is way overblown. It happened in one noticeable game (ole miss 09, NOT auburn 07) and now it happens all the time. Quintessential legend making.

He recruits second to none. He maintains an impressive staff. If there’s a problem, it doesn’t last long. he graduates players. He keeps the program from getting into major trouble with the ncaa. He’s not afraid to cut offenders from the program even if they’re a star qb or Heisman contender.

Btw, saban didn’t build lsu from the bottom up. Dinardo had a decent amount of nfl talent on that team. especially on the defense. go look at lsu’s 99-00 roster yourself.

Last game, miles and krags were on the sidelines laughing it up while saban walks around like he’s having an enema. I like that about miles and co.

And swoopin, you’re missing the point. Miles is still derided in the media for being a buffoon. Just look at the comments in this thread. Non lsu fans STILL think he’s stupid and lucky despite his incredible success. It’s baffling. What does the man have to do? He’s keeping pace with saban at bama for crying out loud. That’s unbelievable. And with jj and jlee at qb no less. Good grief. He’s practically a miracle worker.

Miles, like any other good coach, is good partly because he makes great assistant hires, (OC being the exception)

Frank Wilson
Chavis
Cooper
Moffett

I don't think miles is a brilliant x's and o's guy or a world class recruiter. He's obviously good enough at both. He's done a good job of securing home grown talent, hiring great assistants, and he is one of the best motivators in the game. His guys will run through a brick wall for him. All of those things make him a great coach. You have to be good at all of those things to be considered among the top.
