Biggest surprises:

Mathis as backup DT. He was thought to be our best DT coming back and hopefully that means we have some depth.

DeVante Harris winning the starting CB job over the vets. Seeing him in the scrimmages this wasn't a shock but still a true fish as CB is noteworthy.

Joeckel as the backup and not Showers is pretty surprising too. Most people (including myself) just assumed Showers was the starter about a month ago. Now he's third string.

These are not really surprises, but they show me that Sumlin ain't taking no shite. Play well or ride the pine:
CB
1 De’Vante Harris 5-10 • 175 • Fr-HS • Mesquite, TX (Horn) (Over Sr. Dustin Harris and JUCO transfer Jr. Tremaine Jacobs)

29 Deshazor Everett 6-0 • 181 • So-1L • DeRidder, LA (DeRidder) (Over Sr. Dustin Harris and JUCO transfer Jr. Tremaine Jacobs)

QB
15 Johnny Manziel 6-1 • 200 • Fr-RS • Kerrville, TX (Tivy) (Over So. Matt Joeckel or So. Jameill Showers)

WR
13 Mike Evans 6-5 • 218 • Fr-RS • Galveston, TX (Ball) (Over JUCO Jr. Derel Walkerand Jr. Nate Askew)

NG
42 Kirby Ennis 6-4 • 300 • Jr-2L • Huntsville, TX (Huntsville)(Over Sr. Jonathan Mathis who played a lot last year)
