Is that cost per year for out of state, or for 4 years in state?
My tuition for this semester is $5,394.

UGA surprised me on the list yet the price point is attractive for the ranking.

We've always been recognized as 3rd best academically in the SEC. But yea the price isn't bad especially with the HOPE scholarship (although it's dwindling as we speak).

Forbes site says the following regarding how the list was compiled.
quote:
The rankings, which are compiled exclusively for Forbes by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity, focus on the things that matter the most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, high graduation rates and low-levels of debt. They do not attempt to assess a school’s reputation, nor are they a measure of academic selectivity and we pointedly ignore any metrics that would encourage schools to engage in wasteful spending.

Lists of this type are about the stupidest exercise available that involves higher education.
It's easy to rate small schools highly because they are able to concentrate resources in a single program or academic area. For instance, seriously... who would rate Beloit, Grove City, Hanover, Dayton, Bellarmine, George Fox, etc etc etc over SEC caliber schools? These small schools with only a couple thousand students are highly selective when state schools must serve a cross section of the general population. I'm sure that in many cases, they offer a fine education in specialty areas.
But the TRUTH is that Forbes, USN&WR, etc etc often rate schools on the basis of only a handful of opinions. Or maybe even the amount of research dollars - which isn't quite fair to schools who have a different educational mission.
The bottom line is that if you are in the position to hire someone who is a college graduate, do YOUR homework and hire on personality, team fit, experience, and worry less about where they earned a degree from. Heck, I bet that less than a quarter of the employed are actually DOING what they went and got an education for anyway.

If you just want a degree from a public State university, Ole Miss is a heck of a bargain regardless of rankings.

If not 18k....then 16 or 17k. Oxford has gotten a hell of a lot more packed with students now than when I first moved there back in early 2008.

Eh, thanks. My wife works at a Univ with about 8K students... they'll never sniff any list like that for her academic area in the business school.
But then again, while they grant plenty of new degrees, a major portion of the mission of their business school is to provide additional certifications and secondary business degrees to technical people. They do a great job and the local business community loves their programs.
I doubt Forbes has ever heard of them despite doing rather well at fulfilling their mission.
