UT was a mega-powerhouse during his tenure and was the premier program in the sec along with florida for MANY years. Everyone wanted, and usually failed to beat them....their program BP and AP???

Who is saying he wasn't successful in the 90's?

It's the last ten years in which he wrecked the program, mostly out of complacency.

2001,2007 SEC title appearances... Won at the U when the U was the U....still did some things in 2000's...just not AS dominant

Not really he dominated when coaching in the SEC was pretty weak. When other programs stepped up he couldn't compete. Especially without Cutcliffe he was horrible.

Has to be underrated. Tenner has not yet hit rock bottom either, I'm afraid.

2007 was a fluke. I think he did well in 2004, but Florida was bad that year.

He was simply a bad evaluator of talent and it was all downhill post Rodney Garner.

He didn't evolve after he lost his foothold in GA when Richt got to UGA.

He still pulled in some very highly rated classes, but he couldn't evaluate talent.

Because with Tennessee's excellent history and Fulmer winning the NC, people figured any coach could succeed at Tennessee.

Until Dooley proved them wrong.

Never thought an SEC title appearance would be bad for a school. But when it results in a mega-extension for a coach that's in the process of tanking your program...it set us back a while.

Yes.. He was a good coach, and was close to producing again. UT should not have turned on him like they did..

I feel the same way about RC Slocum for us..

Fulmer was all orange and he loved his school..he brought them a MNC, SEC titles and competed well. UT has to recruit outside state lines and really has to work harder than most schools to secure talent. He deserved a better fate.

Spiffy Kiffy was a huge mistake and whoever interviewed him was fricking blind...or maybe they were enthralled by his wife Layla...easy to do. He was a selfish person and arrogant. If you are going to be arrogant SOB in the SEC...you better make sure your azz can cash the checks your mouth is writing. Good riddance aidos.

Poor Dooley was summoned like a 911 emergency call when the ADs pants were down and he had to scramble and no one wanted job with the negative PR that UT just suffered. Dooley is caught in a bad place and he had to recruit some characters that normally he wouldnt....but when the house is burning down you accept help putting it out from anyone.

Moral to the story: grass isnt always greener on the other side of the 50 yd line.
