Absolutely true! I graduated from a Top 15 university, but was rather aimless after graduation. Ended up getting a job that I thought was perfectly acceptable at the time, but realized later was far below my abilities/education level. Moved up quickly, but still a dead end department.

Fortunately, I got out and into a department with unlimited potential. However, seeing recent state school grads come into the company at levels not much below mine really made me conscious of how much I squandered my opportunities.

I found that the U of A grads connections through alumni/professors almost mitigated any advantage I had over going to a highly ranked university. I could speculate that I might have had greater success had I not come back to Arkansas, but who the hell knows.
