Total nonsense. Everyone said the same thing before Saban's 'return' to Death Valley in 2008. It was a typical SEC game day with fans of both schools tailgating, eating, drinking and partying together at many canopies, tents, and spots across campus.
If you have 125,000 people gathered at any sporting event, you will have some goofball idiot show-offs that think they're being cool. If you can't ignore them, just laugh at them.
Don't put these morons on a pedestal. Instead, focus on the majority of fans who are either friendly, welcoming, indifferent or otherwise oblivious or non-confrontational.

I was actually down in Louisiana on business the week of the 2008 game. I was surprised at the reaction of most LSU fans that had NOTHING but nice things to say about Nick Saban. They weren't too fond of Bama, but they seemed to love Nick Saban to death. Is this still the norm around tiger town?

Yep. I really don't think anybody 'hates' the man, they just hated the situation and series of events that happened that allowed his return to college coaching.
If anything, we should be mad at Wayne Huizenga.
Saban had no intention of going to Miami, but Huizenga (then Dolphins' owner) landed his private helicopter on Saban's lawn off Highland Road in South Baton Rouge, and promised him everything, total control, and practically begged him until he said yes.
Also IMO 'hatred' of another team is really masked respect...
