This seems like a decent compromise if there is some sort of stipulation that the top 2 ranked teams get in no matter what, and then if of the remaining 4 ranked schools, 2 are conference champs they should get the nod. I don't have a problem with that set up. There need to be some objective qualifications, otherwise there is really no point in going to the playoff at all

I went through the last 5 yrs and rankings at the end of the season, before bowls. If this proposal had been in effect, there would have been 4 teams in the 5 yrs left out, ranked above a conf champ that would have gotten in. One SEC team, 2 Pac10 teams and a Big 10 team would have gotten jumped.

2011 would have Lsu, Okie St, Oregon and Bama. Leaving out #4 Stanford

In 5 yrs of playoffs, under the proposal, 4 teams ranked higher than a conference champion would be left out of the playoff(1 SEC, 2 Pac12 and 1 BigTen team). Looking back to 2009, you'd have a team like Cincy in, that was no match for the SEC runner up.

It needs to be the top 4 teams. Period.
