I certainly wasn't trying to make the case that it matters all that much (outside of a CIC-type arrangement). I'm not sure where you got that from.

I was merely pointing out to the ND fan that implying that the SEC wouldn't be academically up to par for them but that the Big 12 would be is not grounded in reality.

For shits and grins I looked up where USNWR ranked the respective conferences. This is not to suggest that these rankings are irrefutable, but for better or worse they are commonly cited.

SEC

17 Vandy
58 A&M
58 UF
62 UGA
75 UA
82 AU
90 Miz
101 UT
111 USC
124 UK
128 LSU
132 Ark
143 Miss
157 MSU

Big 12

45 UT
75 BU
97 ISU
97 TCU
101 KU
101 OU
132 OSU
143 KSU
160 Tech
164 WVU

Yes, you are correct. I was originally thinking about how the conferences were with the old alignment. The Big Twelve would be better than the SEC if you take away WVU and add A&M and Mizzou (while subsequently taking them from the SEC) but that's different now.
