I wouldn't argue the cultural aspect - the Big 12 is definitely a "me first screw everyone else" entity, but in terms of academics the SEC is a significantly superior to the Big 12.

I guess. I mean. At the top three we are clearly better.

Vandy > tu.

A&M/Florida> ISU/Baylor

At the bottom they are probably about equal

State/LSU/Arky/Ole Miss ˜ Tech/OSU/KSU/WVU

The real difference is the middle. The other Big 12 schools are TCU/OU/KU. Which Georgia, Bama, Auburn, and Mizzou are all clearly better than.

I assume UT/Kentucky/South Carolina are all shitty, but I'm not completely sure.

Either way it make no difference. We won't play Georgia/Vandy/Florida except every once in a blue moon, and we will play Ole Miss/State/LSU/Arky(which are academic jokes) every single year. Does this affect anything? No. Playing Tech/OSU/OU every year never made my school any less academically superior, in fact it probably helped it stand out to other schools among the other Big 12 schools when my football team wasn't performing well.

I certainly wasn't trying to make the case that it matters all that much (outside of a CIC-type arrangement). I'm not sure where you got that from.

I was merely pointing out to the ND fan that implying that the SEC wouldn't be academically up to par for them but that the Big 12 would be is not grounded in reality.

For shits and grins I looked up where USNWR ranked the respective conferences. This is not to suggest that these rankings are irrefutable, but for better or worse they are commonly cited.
