Saban took over a Dolphins team that was 4-12 and in his first year they were 9-7. His next year they went 6-10. I think he already knew he didn't want to coach in the NFL at the start of the second season. He didn't suck it up in the NFL. He wans't exactly great, but he wasn't real bad.
