Culture? New Orleans is a cool city with rich culture and history and parts of South Louisiana are unique but don't confuse "culture" with upscale refinement. Louisiana is no more upscale than Alabama despite the elitist arrogant delusions of many on TD who constantly insult the state of Alabama.
Lousiana has no place even REMOTELY as high tech as Huntsville which was rated the 9th smartest city in the world last year. Marshal Space Flight Center runs and manages the Michoud Facility in metro New Orleans and does the same with Stennis in Mississippi. Both facilities take their orders from Alabamians at Marshal Space Flight Center in Huntsville.
Birmingham while it has had its problems in recent years has long had a corporate community that easily outpaced New Orleans. The entire state of Louisiana, much less New Orleans alone, has ever been headquartered to 7 Fortune 500 headquarters at one time as Bham was for many years. New Orleans and Louisiana could only dream of having a research juggernaut like the University of Alabama School of Medicine located at UAB which gets more federal funding than all Louisiana based universities COMBINED (straight from Gov Jindal's mouth). Better beaches, better golf, and better hunting among other things not to mention a much prettier and diverse landscape throughout the state of Alabama as compared to Louisiana. I love the festival culture (not necessarily Mardi Gras but the local festival culture) of New Orleans and the surrounding area but South Louisiana is an environmental disaster and is literally the toilet for much of the rivers systems and watersheds of the U.S. east of the Rockies. I have family in the New Orleans area and have grown to appreciate it more and more over the years but let's not get high and mighty. You guys are no more special or of a higher class of people than Alabamians. There is little difference between the average resident of each state.

Being from New Orleans and going to Alabama exposed me to a whole lot of NOLA jealousy in that state. It's the same people who will get in your face telling you that Mobile invented Mardi Gras. Yeah, maybe, but it fricking sucks.
On anohter note I'm pretty disgusted with Cannizzaro. How many murders have we had in this city in the last week? And your going to take time out of your day for a youtube video of drunks on Bourbon? I read up to Huntsville 9th smartest city in the nation.
It fell behind Birmingham, Mobile, Homewood, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Helena, and Daphne.

Let's talk about your famous high tech Hunstville and how it started. After WWII, the US made a deal with NAZI scientist to work for the US Gov missile program. Why Huntsville, Alabama? Because it was a place to hide the fact from Americans that the father of their space program were actually NAZIs. Who ran the Marshall Space Flight Center but none other than Wernher von Braun. From Wiki "Von Braun worked on the US Army intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) program before his group was assimilated by NASA, under which he served as director of the newly formed Marshall Space Flight Center and as the chief architect of the Saturn V launch vehicle, the superbooster that propelled the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon"
How bout Von Braun's past "SS General Hans Kammler, who as an engineer had constructed several concentration camps including Auschwitz, had a reputation for brutality and had originated the idea of using concentration camp prisoners as slave laborers in the rocket program. Arthur Rudolph, chief engineer of the V-2 rocket factory at Peenemünde, endorsed this idea in April 1943 when a labor shortage developed. You should take comfort in knowing that "operation paperclip" that built Huntsville was the effort of NAZI scientist and the federal government. Through the 1950s Huntsville, due to the German scientists, was probably the smartest city in the world, too bad it is now 9th. I wouldn't say it is Alabamians that are giving orders.
I guess you can say our American German scientist beat the Russian German scientist to the moon.

Excuse me, but Birmingham has but one Fortune 500 Company left and that is Regions Financial. I can tell you as a Regions' stockholder it ain't doing so well. Louisiana currently has three: Entergy, CityLink, and The Shaw Group.
I am not sure you could declare some of those companies real Fortune 500 companies, considering companies like Healthsouth cooked the books and mislead stockholders and investors to get there.
