It probably came from someone in Updyke's family line when they got mad one day when Auburn beat them and was rolling the trees but couldn't think of anything else to say. They seen everyone rolling the trees and laughing so they said "Well.. well.. Roll Tide." and ran off into the bushes crying.

the tide definitely rolled into Auburn & wiped those tigers out. 42-14 if you forgot.
