Don't venture across N. Rampart from the Quarter. That's the Iberville projects. In fact stay in the more touristy areas of the Quarter(Bourbon to the river, Iberville to about Dumaine). The exception is Decatur is generally safe for the length of it. Most of the crime occurs in the more residential areas because it's quieter and darker.
If you head towards the Quarter from the casino, use N. Peters right by Canal Place shopping center(across Canal st. from casino). At times, Canal St. around Bourbon can get dodgy.

From your hotel to the casino is fine especially along convention center blvd. Stick with Poydras St. when headed to the Dome.
