Using that analogy, Bear Bryant built the most beautiful mansion in the south and kept it up for a long time. When he moved out, the leasing company moved in a series of families from the projects in to the property with each leaving the house in worse condition than they found it. When Saban moved in, sure, the house was standing... but it was hardly the beauty that it once was. If it weren't for him moving in, that old house was on the verge of looking like all of those beautiful Mississippi homes on 90 after Katrina came through. When you're looking at a slab of cement it doesn't matter how grand the house that stood there once was.

and using your analogy....when a structure is built solidly with a strong foundation, it most likely will withstand the test of time and will be rebuilt, remodeled, improved. the people who excell within their fields have the ability to recognize potential and to build on that.

bear bryant built on the successes of wallace wade and frank thomas. he didn't just walk into tuscaloosa and create a winning program by himself
