i agree with you in general. however, in this specific instance, OSU seemed to be harmed more by having their game on championship weekend than if it had been the week prior.
assuming the result being the same, they would of had a week of debate regarding their blowout win and their merits vs alabama's.

interesting point, my initial thought was that playing on CC weekend helped them with perception. But it may have hurt them more.
