1941 is ridiculous, agreed. It's also 70 years ago when the NC was a big cluster anyway.

As for 1973 and 1978, name one, just one school that does not recognize an AP or UPI/Coaches national championship they were awarded. I'm going to guess you cannot because EVERY school recognizes these without exception. It's a simple fact that the winner of these polls were THE recognized national champions, no question about it.

The 1973 title is a complete joke and an embarrassment that you actually consider yourself national champions. The 1978 title isn't quite as bad, nonetheless, when the other recognized national champion finishes with the same record as you did and beat you head to head it kind of settles it to me that they, not you are the true national champions.

Bama lost to USC early in the 1978 season and worked their way back up the polls. Penn State was undefeated, untied, and ranked #1 so .it isn't a mystery to me why one poll awarded the title to Bama after that game. You probably weren't born then, but I was and watched the game. It was a classic, something along the lines of what we saw two weeks ago only with a happier ending for Bama fans. I have no problem with USC being awarded a share of the title but the fact they beat Bama early is offset by the fact Bama beat the #1 team in a top tier bowl. An LSU fan complaining about this gives me pause since one of the Tiger's crowns (2003) is split with, ironically, USC. An argument can be made for both teams in both 1978 and 2003 so why don't we just say that both teams in both years are deserving under the system in place at the time. Was too young to pay attention in 1973 so not qualified to discuss that one and wasn't alive in 1941 but agree that one is suspect and can't imagine how anyone could rationalize a title when several teams in the SEC finished with a higher ranking. I get amused at how these other fan bases like to belittle and insult Bama's history and tradition. Of course, I guess history and tradition aren't important to those who have none of their own.
