This changes periodically. Alabama has been raising the standards in the past two years due to hitting the population goal 4 years earlier than Dr Whitt set. This is not indicative of anything other than each university trying to attract students or not exceed the ability to house, teach, etc.

I expect the difference to continue. Whitt's strategy of driving applications from out of state students has been brilliant, IMO. Got to give props to the guy and it definitely has AU's attention.

Entry standards for the two schools aren't materially different. The average student at AU probably has higher average scores because of the engineering program.
