As a fan of college football, how important is NFL success vs college success to you?

To me, I'm a much bigger college football fan than NFL fan and I don't care nearly as much about our alums NFL success, as long as they were able to produce in college. When thinking back on past college players, I would think better of a player that helped their win more games than a player who didn't do much at the school but did better in the NFL.

The college game is different than the NFL, so you'll see Heisman Trophy winners that don't do that well in the NFL. I'd rather have a player win the Heisman than star in the NFL.

On the other hand, some people seem to think that the NFL success (or at least NFL draft position) of a school's players may help recruit better than their college success.

Tim Tebow--When he was finishing at Florida, many non-UF fans would try to diminish what he accomplished by saying he wouldn't be successful in the NFL. I say who cares if he's successful in the NFL? He was a great college QB, maybe one of the best of all time, and won two national championships and a Heisman.

Tee Martin or Peyton Manning? Peyton was fairly successful at Tennessee and is one of the best NFL QB's, but Tee won a National Championship at UT.

People switch based on whatever's convenient for their argument.

However, in the end it should always be college production.

Very, very little. IDGAS about the NFL for the most part, I'm a college fan. Why should I get into a pissing match about who is better AJ or Julio based on one playing for the fricking bengals and one for atlanta? I care about what people do in college, and after that I lose interest almost entirely. Except for georgia players of course.

I want UGA players to do well in the NFL, and I'll add that I wish the best for SEC players in general, but I don't follow their careers too closely. Nor does NFL success change a player's career in my eyes. As an example - D.J. Shockley was a short term backup in the NFL, Matt Stafford the first overall pick. Shockley > Stafford if I had to pick one for one game while at UGA.

I don't even follow the NFL all that closely.

I would like LSU's player to succeed at the next level, but it's much more important they succeed at LSU as far as I am concerned.
For the players themselves, they would rather success at the next level since it brings in loads of money.

It's an apples and oranges comparison.

I personally feel a stronger connection to the Saints than I do to any college team. So I suppose I care how my Saints do more. For a player, I'd imagine NFL success would be more important.

It is certainly possible for success of a college team and how many players that college get drafted go hand in hand.

See Colin Cowherd and Michigan (after the 2005 season).

I know that Michigan went to the Rose Bowl the following year, but considering what has happened since then, he was not that far off.

As a college fan i would be compelled to say what they do in school but as a fan more importantly of football i would say nfl. it depends on the situation of course for any particular player...i would much rather watch barry sanders destroying players while wearing a lions jersey than in an osu jersey...this is where learning to appreciate players beyond your respective schools comes into play.
