And he wasn't doing wrong. After all, it's the players who are signing the letters of intent. Nobody's putting a gun to their head and forcing them to go to Alabama. They all knew what they were getting into.

He was working within the rules at the time, correct. However, those rules were changed - in part - due to complaints by rival schools about a level playing field.

I wasn't slamming what Bryant was doing. I was merely answering your question.

It's pretty universally-accepted that the 85-scholarship limit was an important step forward for the sport.
