it's not as if I've ever not had fun in Starkville.
Its like a lot of other people have stated. These are college towns. I've never gone to Starkville, Oxford, Hattiesburg, Memphis, Baton Rouge, etc.. and not had fun. If you can't find a piece of tang and a cheap watering hole in a college town you're not trying very hard.

What I've noticed is the the SEC east has more towns in this category than is true of the west.
SEC West: Starkville and Auburn are clearly the bottom two, with the rest of the division's towns arguing about which is "more better".
Baton Rouge has the best economy of anywhere in the SEC. And most upside of any SEC town by far, except maybe Nashville. Ole Miss and Alabama have the best greek life. Arkansas has wonderful scenery and an eclectic lifestyle.
SEC East: Gainesville and Knoxville are the bottom two, Gainesville moreso than Knoxville. UT is just adjacent to a bad area of Knoxville, otherwise Knoxville isn't all that bad of a place. Gainesville is just bad, period. Really bad economy.
Columbia isn't too bad, it's just sometimes hard to tell where SC's campus begins and ends. And the area around the campus is not the most attractive.
UK isn't in the best part of Lexington, and there's a couple of bad areas close to the campus. Obviously the rest of Lexington is very nice.
Athens is an awesome college town, and would be the best except Vanderbilt is located in Nashville. Nashville is second to Baton Rouge in job growth, and first in nightlife.
