Clearly, the recent ruling by the NCAA...

...spoke volumes about the situation. They chose not to enforce a rule that no player family member could solicit for money because 'the player' does not appear to have knowledge of the solicitation. Shaky ground at best. A definite slippery slope.
But why did they choose to rule him eligible in this situation?? MONEY!!! They NCAA does not desire a Oregon/TCU matchup...an almost sure fire thing if Aubbie got whacked!
Let's make no bones about it...the NCAA saw lots of $$$$$$ twisting down the toilet...and backed off of an obvious rules violation that would upset the apple cart before the pseduo National Championship game.
Honestly, I think they'll be OK with whacking Aubbie in the years that follow, but for the immediate money picture...they wanted (and the SEC wants) the big time undefeated SEC team in the picture for the SEC-CG and potentially the National CG.

The NCAA does not make a single dime off of bowl games... and I'm pretty sure they don't make money off of college football period.

seriously...no commissions on the NCAA merchandise...
and the conferences that they are beholden to???

Indeed. The NCAA is probably giddy at the thought of the BCS dying so that they can implement a play-off under their supervision.

I'd be down with that...but I don't think they are motivated to overthrow the BCS...they seem tied at the hip to me.

Seriously? One has nothing to do with the other

Sure, but merchandise sold at bowl games will be sold to the team's fans... Bandwagon fans will buy merchandise from whatever team - so the NCAA wouldn't care who made it to the BCS national championship.
NCAA has nothing to do with the BCS.

I don't see TCU selling as many NC shirts/caps/etc. as Oregon or Auburn...not NEARLY as many. I call BS on that.
When something is as full of crap as this decision, you have to turn to motivation. There has to be some motivation for the NCAA to pus out like they did on this! Were them simply scared to take down such a prominent figure in this season...this late??? Money is usually the real reason. Somehow...the NCAA did this for money.

The NCAA makes almost their entire yearly budget off the the NCAA men's basketball tourney. From the BCS they receive only incidentals as you mentioned above, e.g., merchandise royalties. They would make a ton of money if the BCS were out of the way and they controlled the FBS tournament.

Cmon? The NCAA would probably love for TCU to play and for people to get a boring NCG and start protesting against the BCS.. "I" don't see any logic for the NCAA to make a bias all the sudden in AU's favor

This would explain the SEC's decision to stop investigating ANY violations (NCAA or SEC) in 2004. They don't want to upset the BCS.
I felt this way (not wanting to change the BCS due to the SEC advantage) until the end of 2004 but that might change after this season.

The NCAA does not want playoffs. Because the school presidents control the NCAA and they don't want playoffs (think they would overemphasize football even more, as if that is even possible).
Bluntly put, there is no sensible reason for the NCAA to go against all precedent and all logic and keep sCam eligible. But they did it anyway.
