There's some neighborhoods east of downtown lined with nice old homes, sorta like the Garden District, if you like that stuff. Good way to kill an hour or so, and the area's pretty posh, so it's safe. I think east along Union Street might get you there, but it's been a long time since I've been to Memphis, so you should do some research. If you're interested.
