I don't think it is so much that LSU has been written off. The SEC West is insanely deep this year with no true bottom feeder. Any of 4 teams have the potential to win the West, with Ole Miss and State having the talent to beat anybody on a great day.

Any time you play a team with the talent LSU has, you are in for a rough day.
