I've yet to see evidence that a bye week helps CFB teams. Especially good ones.

Since 2007, these are the number of SEC games played when the opponent had an open week prior to the game:

17—Alabama

5—LSU

4—Vanderbilt

4—Florida

4—Tennessee

3—Georgia

3—Auburn

2—Kentucky

1—Ole Miss

1—Mississippi State

0—Arkansas

0—South Carolina

Bye weeks, often times, give that team some trouble. It can really throw off the rhythm of the season if is comes at the wrong time. Bama will win though, they always do. If South Carolina or Arkansas were bitching I doubt the SEC offices even return their calls.
