I agree it was a smart play, but it's the football equivalent of a flop in soccer.
The refs don't call that unless they are actively trying to frick you.
I'm not saying that it was a bad call. It was just a call that doesn't get made in other situations.
If there aren't other bad calls made within the game to raise questions about the reffing you don't even hear about it.

On third and long in the third or fourth quarter mid-play, Somebody threw a water bottle onto the field from the Ole Miss student section. The play should have been stopped, a warning issued, and the play rerun.
