This guy follows Iowa State football. He was on the Finebaum show this past Friday.
I thought some of comments were interesting.
He said that he thought Chizik was good coach and he would have won 6-7 games this season. He said with the talent that Chizik brought in that Paul Rhoads will win 4-5 even with a new offense.
He also said he didn't understand the negativity with the Chizik hire because of his record, because it is hard to win at Iowa St. and McCarney was a legend because he could consistently win 6 ball games a year. He said 6 wins a year at Iowa St will make the fans happy.
Just wanted to share...

I think most understand this, but it is too easy of a target to pass up.

Eh...
McCarney's last four recruiting classes all sucked horrifically, but Chizik's two recruiting classes weren't all that much better.
ETA: The crown achievement of his recruiting at ISU was signing Sedrick Johnson; who should wind up being a dynamic receiver if Austin Arnaud can get the ball to him.

I think this is the point...it doesn't take much to get to legendary status at ISU...win 6-7 games a year and you are safe...

Well all Gumps ignore how Saban destroyed the Dolphins and they only won 1 game that year.

Well yeah. Iowa State is a horrible football venue and was in a horrible situation when Chizik took over. The team under his watch suffered several setbacks; including the transfer of Bates in his second season which; IMO, played a role in the absolute collapse the team suffered.
For the most part, no coach is going to be able to win very much in their first years in a situation like that. For example, McCarney's first two years he went 5-17. He went 56-85 total and he is regarded as one of the best coaches Iowa State has ever seen. I believe he is seen that way because he managed to take Iowa State to five bowl games and actually won two of them. I don't believe ISU had won a bowl game before his arrival.
