Arkansas had one All-SEC caliber player at each level of their defense that year.
And they were a top 25 team.
3 players can't make a defense.
Ole Miss probably has 7 or 8 players on defense next year who will be drafted.

Mostly because they beat LSU.

Usually players shine because of the defense as a whole. The fact that the coaches voted three Arkansas players on means they were at least decent, as a unit.

I was never trying to argue that Ole Miss isn't more talented now than Arkansas was then. I don't believe that is true. Ole Miss is more talented.
I am just disputing this idea you are putting out there that Nutt actually won 8 games with a bunch of nobodies. He had some players.
In my mind, Nutt did his job against everybody but Kentucky and Tennessee that year....although that Auburn loss at home, where the talented offense managed only one score, had to be disappointing as well.
The fact is that Nutt got his teams up against the LSUs and the Alabamas of the world, but then couldn't keep them focused against lesser teams.
That team played to the talented level of the opponent, which is a sign of bad coaching. They played over their heads when outmatched, but they played poorly when they were the favorites.
Guess what? Ole Miss is a favorite now. Welcome to Arkansas' pain.
