But yeah, it was likely our talent and not the coach. Neither go hand in hand afterall.

I will admit that Houston Nutt deserves most of the blame for this lack of talent, however Arkansas does have a weak recruiting base.

Arkansas had one All-SEC caliber player at each level of their defense that year.
And they were a top 25 team.
3 players can't make a defense.
Ole Miss probably has 7 or 8 players on defense next year who will be drafted.

The fact that you started this thread is proof that you're worried.
So much bullshite going around this board these days. LSU and Arkie fans start 50 Ole Miss threads a day on this board but they're not worried about Ole Miss, but an Ole Miss fan starts one trying to make a point in Hootie's favor, and suddenly we are scared.
Let me get two points across to you:
1) We aren't scared.
2) You should be.

I know you weren't, but you we're playing the Ole Miss fans think that Houston Nutt is not at least partly responsible for the lack of talent that the Razorbacks have been putting on the field.
That is garbage.

Mostly because they beat LSU.

Usually players shine because of the defense as a whole. The fact that the coaches voted three Arkansas players on means they were at least decent, as a unit.

I was never trying to argue that Ole Miss isn't more talented now than Arkansas was then. I don't believe that is true. Ole Miss is more talented.
I am just disputing this idea you are putting out there that Nutt actually won 8 games with a bunch of nobodies. He had some players.
In my mind, Nutt did his job against everybody but Kentucky and Tennessee that year....although that Auburn loss at home, where the talented offense managed only one score, had to be disappointing as well.
The fact is that Nutt got his teams up against the LSUs and the Alabamas of the world, but then couldn't keep them focused against lesser teams.
That team played to the talented level of the opponent, which is a sign of bad coaching. They played over their heads when outmatched, but they played poorly when they were the favorites.
Guess what? Ole Miss is a favorite now. Welcome to Arkansas' pain.

Oh I have a lot of respect for Ole Miss. This year.
Wait till Snead leaves. Then we'll have ourselves a good ole fashioned Louisiana QB showdown between JJ and Randall Mackey. I'll put money on JJ.

I'm not saying that he won 8 games with nobody's.
I'm saying the reason that he didn't win 10 or 11 games like a lot of people thinks he should have is because he just had average talent everywhere except the backfield, and shitty talent at the most important position.

Elisha, would it be easier for all of us just to simply say "Stay Tuned..."? Listen, if you guys are satisfied with 4-4 in the SEC year in and year out, good on ya mate. If you feel Nutt is the answer, rock on kiddo. For you to come on here and tell us what kind of coach Nutt is is a joke. You ain't seen shite yet Jr. So...
Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.

Well if the expectation was 10 or 11 games, he didn't meet that expectation did he? He could have beaten Alabama. He could have beaten Auburn. He shouldn't have lost to Kentucky (could say the same for us, I know).
10 games was possible that year. A good coach could have gotten them there. Nutt didn't.

10 or 11 games was the Arkansas expectation.
He did what the national media expected him to do.
Sure he traded some losses against teams he should have beaten for wins against teams he shouldn't have. But every team does that.

Which are the expectations that counted. This is why he got fired. Well...that and the whole Mustain saga...which was part of the QB

But in Nutt's case, the losses that could have been wins far outnumbered the wins that could have been losses.
Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky v. LSU
That's 3-1.
They just got beat down by Tennessee. I'm not even bringing that into the discussion.

Three teams that were on par if not better than Arkansas that year.

A lot of things have to come together for Nutt and Ole Miss to make it to Atlanta. I do not see it happening but it could.

thanks. It's Houston Nutt's fault that Arkansas didn't have the talent to win. It's not his coaching.
I'm expecting us to not have enough talent to compete for SEC championships if we don't go to Atlanta this year.
I've accepted it. Petrino is a good coach, and Arkansas should be in a good situation down the road.
Next year is ours.
Houston Nutt's coaching won't blow it.

I don't give a rat's arse about Houston Nutt. He is not our problem anymore. Best of luck to Ole Miss with him. End of discussion.
