I don't think so. Bryant and McKay were good friends and had discussed playing for years. Keep in mind Alabama was coming off a very mediocre 6-5 '69 season with their defense giving up 49 and 47 pts in their last two games.
There has been a literary cottage industry about that 1970 game. Lots of 'fish tales' in that game.Nonetheless,it was a big deal and did open some eyes,even though Alabama had some blacks ready for the varsity in '71. Here is a pretty good book on the game:

bayou2003 I have heard people say that several times. I don't want to believe that he would throw a game, but it wouldn't shock me either
