Rumors that he may be joining the Georgia staff. Saying he has been in Athens a lot and his daughter is on the gym team. Anyone else hearing anything on this.

I haven't heard anything but I wondered about this. Maybe not so much "join the staff" but Kirby telling Tomlin that to feel free to hang out around Butts-Mehre as often or as occasionally as he wants.

I can't see Tomlin being a position coach or coordinator and spending much of his life on the road recruiting and hanging out in high school main offices and gyms and waiting for the recruit he's there to see to be pulled out of class.

Not sure why we'd need/want Tomlin. Lately, we've had his patented lose-in-the-first-round-of-the-playoffs move down pretty well. Though I guess our streak is only two years, and his is six, so maybe we're looking for tips on how to improve ours?

I hope not.

Yea, who would want a coach that has won two super bowls. We put guys in advisory positions. He is a good coach with a ton of experience. Maybe he doesnt want a position where he is on the road recruiting a lot but as Mike Tomlin he doesnt need to be to help with recruiting. Im sure he would like to be near his daughter and go see her compete.

His most recent - and only his one as a head coach - was 17 years ago; his last playoff win was in 2016. But that record clearly shows that he's still at the top of his game.

Make him the visit guy, no travel just works with the recruits and their folks about what Georgia can do for their kids NFL chances.

Isn’t the Coaches Clinic with a lot of NFL types coming up? UGA’s own Super Bowl winning HC is the feature this year.

Anyway, he could be hanging around while he visits his daughter, hitting the Coaches Clinic, etc.

It’s definitely not a negative to have him around.

I had no idea there'd be any fans who would be against the idea, but there's always someone on the internet willing to give a hot take I guess.. Being an NFL head coach means you've reached the very top of your profession. Any former NFL coach would bring a lot of value to the program, let alone one who's done it for 20 years and won two Super Bowls. And these were his down years…

He won 10 games with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph at QB.

Rich Kotite
Hue Jackson
Art Shell
Matt Eberflus

Oh yeah, there's a ton of value right there, and that's by no means an exhaustive list.

That still doesn't mean that you're any good. Plenty of hacks end up in top positions - they just don't produce quality results.

As for Tomlin - the Steelers fans weren't chanting "Fire Tomlin" for two years because they were happy about his inability to win a playoff game for basically the last decade.

So, if you could get one who has been in 12 Super Bowls and won 8, you'd have an absolute powerhouse hire, right? Except Bill Belichick isn't exactly lighting it up at UNC.

If you really believe that becoming an NFL head coach doesn't necessarily mean that you're any good at coaching football, we will have to agree to disagree.

Also your idea that Mike Tomlin losing in the first round of the playoffs would rub off on the Georgia program like some sort of cooties or osmosis is also interesting.

Hue Jackson: NFL win percent .205 (including two seasons where he went a combined 1-31; i.e., literally anyone in the world could only do one loss worse). His college win percentage wasn't a whole lot better at .364.

If you re-read what I originally wrote, I stated that we have been doing quite well at losing in the first round on our own lately, we don't need his help to do that, and I hoped that we weren't bringing him in to teach us how to do it better.
