NCAA Tourney Trivia

This is a little late to help with filling out brackets, but here a few trivia tidbits.

Only 3 teams seeded 12th or worse have ever made it to the elite 8. Zero have advanced past the elite 8.

More 11 seeds (6) have made the final four than have 10 seeds (1), 9 seeds (2), 8 seeds (4), or 7 seeds (3),

Only one team seeded 8th or worse has made the championship game. Villanova did it as an 8 seed in 1985 and won.

Butler is the only team to make back to back final fours when not seeded at least once as a 1 or 2 seed. They made back to back final fours as a 5 and then as an 8 in 2010-2011.

The 11 seeds have swept the 6 seeds once, in 1989.

Ten years later, the 12 seeds swept the 5 seeds, in 1999.

Richmond has won first round games as a 15th, 14th, 13th and 12th seed.

Only once has a region had no top 4 seeds advance to the sweet sixteen (2018 South; 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th).

Arizona and Wisconsin are tied for the most upset losses with 8 each. Oklahoma and Missouri have the most of any SEC teams with 6 each.
