Let’s be honest, as long as there is such a thing as a “committee”, this is what we’ll get

Namely a playoff where the top four seeds all collectively shite the bed. It’s time to end the insanity of FBS football deciding its champion by committee , and here is how it can be done.
1. Split the FBS into two divisions. The Power 4 have their own playoff to decide their champion, the Group of 5 have their own playoff to decide their own champion
(BTW, this will give us more football)
2. The Power 4 each set up divisions in their own respective conferences. They then each have their own conference playoff game to decide who plays on their conference championship. For example, the SEC is 16 teams. So 4 divisions of 4 teams each. Win your division to make it to the conference playoff game. Win your conference playoff game to make it to the conference championship game win the conference championship and that earns you a spot in the 4 team CFP. No “at-large” bids, no “eye tests”, no arguments about strength of schedule. Everything is decided by what you do on the field.
(an this will also give us more football, an more than that, it will give us more meaningful football.
It could look like this, I’ll use the SEC as an example. Don’t get hung up on how I make the divisions or the win loss record of each team (I know the numbers don’t add up from a win/loss standpoint), it’s for example only:
Regular season (11 game season)
Div. A
Florida 10-1
Georgia 9-2
South Carolina 7-4
Kentucky 6-5
Div. B
Tennessee 9-2
Alabama 8-3
Auburn 8-3
Vandy 7-4
Div. C
Miss State 10-1
LSU 9-2
Ole Miss 8-3
Arkansas 7-4
Div. D
Texas A&M 9-2
Missouri 8-3
Oklahoma 8-3
Texas 7-4
Conference Playoff games
Florida v. Texas A&M
Miss State v. Tennessee
Conference Championship
Texas A&M v. Miss Stats
CFP playoffs (other conferences have had their own playoff)
Miss State (SEC Champ)v. Michigan State (Big 10 champ)
Kansas State (Big XII Champ) v. Georgia Tech (ACC Champ)
CFP National Championship
Miss State v. Georgia Tech
And remember we’ll also have a separate but parallel playoff going on with th group of 5 as well, again, more meaningful football. Plus, teams that down make the playoffs can still go play in bowl games.
