Why was the “top 5 conference champs get an auto bid” not dropped when the PAC disbanded??

or at least changed to top 4?
I can see an argument for the top rated G5 school - but 2 G5 teams in is stupid
That rule should have been addressed when the PAC died…

It was top 6 originally. Went to top 5 when Pac 12 disappeared.
The thought was that it would be SEC, Big 10, Big 12, ACC and one lesser conference each year.
But the ACC and Big 12 aren't very good so we'll also have some years like this mixed in.
