Former Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett is expected to return to Starkville as Jeff Lebby's new defensive coordinator, sources told @cbssports.
Miss St is moving on from DC Coleman Hutzler. Arnett was MSU DC from 2020-22 and head coach for one year in 2023.
ESPN first reported that Arnett would be a target for Miss St.
In case you forgot, Arnett's defenses were pretty impressive at State first go around.
From 2020-22 ranked top 5 in SEC in: total defense, lowest percentage of big plays allowed, points per possession allowed, fewest rushing TDs and yards allowed, among others.

Sources: Mississippi State defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler has been informed he’s not returning for the Bulldogs next season. Mississippi State is expected to target former head coach and DC Zach Arnett to be the defensive coordinator.
Arnett is a proven high-end defensive coordinator in the SEC. In three years at Mississippi State, his defenses ranked in the Top 5 in the SEC in total defense, rushing defense and takeaways. It would be the rare reunion of a former head coach returning to the staff of that team.

I’m glad he’s coming back as DC.

Rare seeing an ex HC come back in a lower spot but I think it’s a great move. He can rebuild defense and rebuild his career. Knows ins and outs of program and recruiting as well.

I think you just gave to accept that half the coaches in D1 are degenerates

I liked him as DC with Leach. He put up good defenses with players who weren't highly rated.
Our defensive talent is better now than any team Arnett coached. Could be good if he stays out off the Wendy's drive thru.

We are born to lose, but I don't think this was a bad hire
