Biggest concern with the offense is getting TDs when in normal scoring range

With the kind of complimentary football we're playing where the offense tries to shorten the game to protect the defense, we're going to have to maximize possessions because our own ball control could end up being what keeps the opponent in a game if we're scoring in multiples of 3 instead of 7. Especially concerning since any non-chip-in distance kicks are a coin flip at best with Talty.

Obviously part of this is due to a lack of trust in the run game and the passing attack being built to get chunk yardage with route combinations that do not work as well on a shorter field. Good news, in my opinion, is the running game is improving over the last two games. We're going to start running a bit more balanced if the improvement continues. This will create some opportunities to run man beaters in the passing game instead of having smaller zone windows when 35 and in.

If Alabama starts cashing in a few more TDs on their drives, we're going to be hard to stop because it will force opponents to just abandon the run if the defense can't just manage to stop it consistently.

That's on Ryan Grubb. He has to get better with what play he calls in RedZone.

I have confidence that as the line gets better at downfield blocking on runs/RPOs, the short field play will come easier and the red zone troubles will sort themselves out. Was a good sign to see the line get good blocks out against a pretty good interior all day in addition to pass pro responsibilities. Hoping it will be enough to give the defense more rest as the weaker of the two units and more chances to make adjustments.

The 2nd down play calling was a little suspect. We were getting 5 yards a pop on 1st down, but our 2nd down plays were often going for 0 or negative gains.

2nd and long run play calls fairly low quality according to analytics and we called a 2nd and 20 run that got a yard on the possession before Vanderbilt scored their 2nd touchdown.

You might as well have thrown twice.
