Damon Wilson transferred to Mizzou last winter. Currently has 22 QB pressures. Our entire DL has 21.
More evidence that our scheme is a bigger portion of the issue than talent.
H/t to Twitter and On3 for the stats.

Yes, Schumann is not as aggressive as Lanning was/is

The devils advocate to this is they've played nobody

Yeah but we've had two cupcakes too.
UTk had a OL starter out i think
And Bama have up 15 pressures to Wisky
Auburn has an ally like bad oline. Will be interesting to see how we do against them.

Rusty, Rowe, and Reuse said on their show this week that they spoke to a guy very close to that situation that said we matched Mizzou’s offer and essentially it was a Jermaine Johnson situation. He wanted to go somewhere that he could basically get unleashed to rush the passer and be all but absolved of run game responsibilities.
Now, that aside, I do agree we tend to focus almost too much on stuffing the run and that makes us less effective affecting the passer, especially on 1st and 2nd down.

2 cupcakes vs 5 cupcakes is a huge deal. We use a mush rush that keeps qbs contained instead of unleashing the hounds.

That strategy probably needs to change right?
I think we are in the 120s in total pressures for the season. Doesn't matter who you are playing that is unacceptable when we sign the talent we do.
Kirby has to chill on the gap/Lane integrity and let these guys take risks to get to QB. Not like we are preventing big plays from happening with the current strategy, so yeah it will probably burn us a few times with a QB scramble but so what.

Maybe. It won two national championships but we don’t have the dl like we did before

Seems like our pass rush always starts out slow and then picks up after the bye week for the Florida game. I wish our pass rush would start picking up before Halloween.

Marvin Jones Jr. is still on some injury lawyer billboard around here, and he's now on his third team. We've had 4 or 5 five star outside linebackers transfer in the last few years, and that doesn't include Jermaine Johnson. And Brenton Cox is the one who started the trend.
5 star linebackers can be fools gold, though. MJ Sherman plays for the Alouettes now and Chaz Chambliss plays for the Vikings. Twitter was all about some MJ Sherman needing to play over Chaz Chambliss a few years ago.

Something that comes to mind is
the 2020 offseason/early 2021 stories about creating havoc, focusing on pass rush etc. that was mainly driven by Dan Lanning. I know Kirby has said Lanning won the DC job over Schumann due to force of personality & I just wonder if Schumann is more of a yes man or just more conservative in general like Kirby.
I am a broken record on this but expecting to replicate the 2021 front 7 is silly and we will be lucky to see another Jalen Carter, even with a $100 million NIL budget. Trying to replicate those guys is not the answer.
Now that said I do think we need a monster space eater stud at NT each year for Kirby's defense to work. Someone mentioned it earlier but the Jordan Davis, Mt. Cody, D'aron Payne type dudes seemed to become this unstoppable force that could take over a game. Do JJA or Ogboko or Jordan Hall or Elijah Griffin have that in them??

I think the 21/22 defenses are more talent than scheme. The think this is who kirby is and will be with NIL.
