Just curious as to people's thinking on what "deserve" means in 2024.
And how this definition is affected by our own personal eras and journeys as college football fans.

Well, that great philosopher Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven said, "Deserving got nothing to do with it."

SMU and Miami have an extremely weak schedule and haven’t beaten a top 25 team. IMO, all three 9-3 SEC teams are more deserving than the two ACC teams.
Alabama and Ole Miss beat SCAR so IMO it comes down to Ole Miss v Alabama
Alabama
Best OOC win- Wisconsin
Best wins- UGA, SCAR, Mizzou, LSU
Losses- UTk, Vandy, OU
Ole Miss
Best OOC win- Wake Forest
Best wins- UGA, SCAR, Arkansas
Losses- LSU, Florida, and a really bad UK

When they expanded from two to four, it was an admission that deserving is slightly less important than more content. From four to twelve, it was saying that the best team winning is irrelevant, we just need as much content as possible. Fans of weaker programs advocated for this - you reap what you sow.

Remember the FSU controversy last year. Bama took the ultimate NC champ to OT. FSU got steamrolled in a bowl game. The committee was right. If Bam played Miami's, SMU's or ND's schedule they would probably be 12-0 or 11-1.
