take this for what it’s worth, but a friends father is connected to the Clemson program. He was told that Dabo was asked about possibly moving the game to Friday. ESPN or one of their networks wanted to televise it. Allegedly, Dabo declined as he did not want to interfere with Friday night high school games. ESPN wasn’t very happy with that decision. So that might be why gameday ignored picking that game and giving it much attention. Could I see ESPN being spiteful and doing that? Absolutely.

I posted about this many times while explaining why the refs in the UGA vs Ga Tech game were ACC refs.
The '92 agreement between the SEC and ACC dealing with the instate rivalry games stipulated that visiting teams bring their refs while home teams make TV decisions that they are offered by the networks.
At the time the ACC were ABC and the SEC were CBS. However, it came into play this year because ABC/ESPN offered Dabo the Friday night game .... and he turned it down. They then offered the Friday night game to Kirby and he accepted so that he would have the extra time to prepare for the SECCG.
ETA: Clearly Dabo had deduced that he had little chance to make the ACCCG.

Impressive that he was able to father children despite this.
