Lots of sites produce great info pre and during season. I’ll try and post some of it. Nothing compares to pads popping and there are always teams that just mesh and climb the charts beating teams they weren’t supposed to And teams who underperform as well. But thats what makes it fun

Kelly Ford does some great work and puts a ton of effort into his charts. He has an initial ranking and then fine tunes it a few times leading up to season, as more info comes in.

OKLAHOMA plays the 5th-most difficult schedule in the nation in 2024 & faces the 6th-toughest collection of opposing FBS OFFs

Additionally, the Sooners play the 2nd-hardest conference slate of any SEC team

There is a lot of talent in Norman this year, but the schedule is rough

For those interested in process, I made more progress from v1 to v2 this year than in previous years. Meaning, my v2 are closer to final than ever before. It also means that I’m leaning towards no v3, with the next update being the final/official preseason ratings in mid-August

Kelly Ford V2 SEC. How many conf wins.

I think OU goes 5-3 in Conf and outside chance at 6 would be above expectations.

Also think tx comes back to earth. They had 3 games that could have been easy losses last year, so all rankings use what their final record was. Sark has only won 10 or more games 1 time in his career.

LSU lost a lot on offense and their D was bad last year, so lots to make up and I think are too high

There are 6 teams within a game on this chart so things can flip so fast. From LSU to OU is 1 game and those 6 teams.

v2 projected SEC standings

Never heard of Kelly Ford, but she or he has a nice display. However she or he seems to not take OU seriously. She or He ( will just say Kelly) has OU in the bottom half of the SEC.

OU has the most returning production on Defense in the SEC, OU has the most returning starts on the Oline in the SEC. OU has the top QB from the Manning passing academy where he competed against SEC QBs . OU beat Texas last year.

So to put OU in the bottom half of the SEC Kelley has to ignore a lot of information. It would be hard to find a serious Sportswriter that would put OU in the bottom half of the SEC. I think Kelley’s chart is crap….

No ranking is absolute. Each system has different ways to measure and none is a for sure thing. You can’t rank emotions of 18-22 year olds in games.

KFord is a guy. He looks at who we play and dissects those teams offenses and defenses. He looks at returning production. He looks at schedule difficulty. I think our schedule is brutal and that has to weigh in. Because of who we play.

If you look at his plotter chart its not that all landed on 4.2 - rather thats the middle ground. He shows 5 wins as less percentage but he does still show it. I’ve followed him for a while and he’s as good as others yet always fine tuning.

I would ask you, what do you think our conference record will be?

Our 4 home games have 3 ranked teams.

Our 4 road games have 3 ranked teams.

Out of 6 ranked teams, if we split and win the rest thats 5-3. And at Auburn will be tough as nails. LSU at night on road too.

I see that Kelly has improved his ranking of Oklahoma . KF moved Oklahoma up from 9 in SEC to 8 in CFB.

@BClinton40

How do the #Sooners stack up in the SEC?

Winning %: 2nd (.725)
All-Time Wins: 3rd (944)
Conference Titles: 1st (50)
National Titles: 2nd (7)
Consensus All-Americans: 2nd (82)
Heisman Winners: 1st (7)
NFL Draft Picks: 1st (417)
Weeks Rank No. 1: 2nd (101)

Pretty well...

So if you look at both of KF;s charts he has OU losing to 3 teams he feels are not as good as OU, namely LSU, Missouri and Ole Mis…..

I guess he feels there is a big home field advantage that overrides quality…

Maybe KF should make a chart of home field advantage….

Owen field would be near the top of any statistical analysis of home field advantage….

You asked conf record guesstimate.

My guess 6-2 we are capable of winning all of them but things happen and a couple of tough games might not go our way.

@KFordRatings

How many regular season wins does your team need to be in conversation for a CFP at-large bid?

*Order within the tier matters. Georgia’s 9 wins would be more impressive than Vanderbilt’s, which would be more impressive than Arkansas’, etc.

Thats the thing, we could surprise a lot of people this year. Best D in SeC imo. An offense with lots of questions but I think has great potential. I love our QB room. Same with WRs. And a new OC means no history for teams to gameplan against for some time. We’ll have a lot of close games and to me that favors a great defense plus a FG kicker. We have questions at kicker and that might be difference between 6-2 and 4-4 in conf.

Its such a wildcard year. I do think we’ll do great and those small things will be the difference. I like the direction of the team.

Yes I agree the FG kicker will be huge in close games. The New kicker from Moore HS looks very reliable even at 50 yards out

If you want to hear Kelly Ford explain his rankings this is a quick 90 sec video of him. He has good logic. And of course, no one really knows until season starts. OU will not be what they were last year, they’ll be better. How much is the question.
