ESPN has announced a five-year deal with TNT Sports to sublicense College Football Playoff games. As part of the deal, TNT will broadcast two first-round games in 2024 and 2025 before adding quarterfinals each year from 2026-28.

Because the licensing fee TNT is paying is more than the ad revenue ESPN would receive from those games.

$$$$
They have lost money on some things over the years. And this gets some back. They will have no overhead either so pure profit.

Makes perfect sense for ESPN. Keep the majority of playoff games so people need to pay subscriber fees for ESPN access. Sell off a few games a year to another network for more money than ESPN could profit off of ad revenue alone.
ESPN’s better announcers were going to be stretched thin as is between 11 total playoff games. Better to farm a few out than put on a terrible show.

Don't think this is correct. I think TNT will depend on ESPN for telecast crew (camera's, direction, all the technical equipment) except they'll use TNT announcers. It's a prestige thing for TNT - I doubt they see any profit after they pay licensing & crew costs to ESPN.
