So I did another analysis of the schedule..

Idk what the SEC office used to calculate SOS.. but I'm assuming it is something like this..

Texas had a lot of good luck.
1) Texas got better with Sark.
2) Oklahoma coach left for USC in 2022.
3) A&M coach got fired in 2023.
4) Arkansas fell off the map in 2023.
5) Miss State coach died before 2023.
6) Florida made a bad hire in 2022.

Oklahoma had a lot of bad luck.
1) Oklahoma coach left for USC in 2022.
2) Texas got better with Sark.
3) Ole Miss got a lot better with Kiffin.
4) Missouri got a lot better in 2023.
5) LSU won the division in 2022.
6) Auburn made a good hire in 2023.
7) Tennessee got a lot better with Heupel.

Those are most of our opponents.. and it's pretty much a landslide of good luck for Texas.. a lot of that happened in 2022 or 2023.. and I'm assuming most of the scheduling was done sometime in 2021 or possibly 2022.. since the schedule was announced in 2023.. it certainly didn't include anything with 2023.

At the end of the day.. I hope Texas can take advantage of the good fortune.. but it also might mean we are due for some bad luck.

All that being said, I do remember one year when everyone wrote off Oklahoma because they were an unknown and had a really hard schedule upcoming (hard at the time).. They had a new head coach in just his second year and a DC in his 2nd year as well.. they had lost their OC from the prior year who took a HC job at Texas Tech.. and they brought in a lot of Juco players to fill some of the gaps..

Texas had a new coach in his 3rd year with a lot of hope going into the year.. and I'm not saying that is going to happen again (it better not) but I think it's crazy to write off this Oklahoma team. I don't personally see what would make them good enough to compete for a NC, but I didn't see it back in 2000 either. We had Mack Brown. Stoops had been a DC coach.. why would OU be good that year? I really thought we would kick their arse that day.. Venables was his DC and Mike Leach was the coach who left for Texas Tech.

A lot of similarities.. hopefully the result is different this year.
