To be fair, GC was no Bard

As for homoeroticism, it was more the "drill scene" in "The Fountainhead" with a total hottie (Patricia Neal) looking on. Much like Brad Pitt in "Thelma & Louise" sold tickets to women, same could be said about Gary Cooper in this movie (sadly no gif to post for full effect).

Patricia Neal for those who never watched her in a movie.
