Not really. He had a great opportunity given to him. He should have continued to run Leach’s offense in 2023 and possibly into 2024 given the fact that the talent on the squad was built for it. Instead, he completely changed the offense and totally neutered Rogers until he was a shell of his former self.
Had he been patient and then started to adjust the offense to a new philosophy it would have been much better.
Coach your talent to what their strengths are. Don’t try to bend them to do something that they are not capable of.
So State did not do him dirty. I thought we made the right decision to elevate him at the time all that happened. But IMHO he botched his opportunity by trying to ram what he wanted down the player’s throat instead of letting the offense slowly evolve into what he wanted to do. He was a good defensive coordinator and I am sure he will land somewhere after he serves his time in Oxford.
